7 Types Of Intelligence

It’s all too easy to get caught up in comparing one child to another.  The truth is, each child has different gifts and talents.  If you can pay attention to your child’s type of intelligence, you can help your child thrive by acknowledging what he or she is good at.  It may take a few years for you to discover your child’s type(s) of intelligence.  In the end, your child who will be glad to hear you say, “I’m so proud of you for…” when they come crying to you telling you that everyone else is smarter, more athletic, or more talented than they are.

Psychologist, Howard Gardner lists seven types of intelligence in his book Frames of Mind:

Music:  They have a discriminating ear when it comes to sounds and melody.

Language:  A love of language and the written word.

Logic-Math:  Reasoning power.  An affinity towards math and science.  They are good with patterns, categories and relationships.

Interpersonal Intelligence:  An ability to understand others.

Intrapersonal Intelligence: Self-knowledge.

Bodily Kinesthetic:  Knowledge is processed through the body.  They may be athletic, good dancers or have an ability with sewing or woodworking.
