_Making Learning Fun: Simple Things To Do At Home
- Make sure your home is childproofed for safety.
- Have windows available for your child to look out of.
- Point out objects or aspects of the environment that would stimulate a connection with your child’s five senses: seeing, smelling, tasting, touching, and feeling.
- Sing or play soft background music for your child.
- Tap rhythms. Change the speed form slow to fast. Vary the volume from soft to loud.
- Let your child make sounds using wooden spoons, pots and pans.
- Let your child play with different size plastic containers.
- Read to your child for at least 15 minutes a day.
- Expose your baby to pictures that have a variety of faces from different ages and nationalities.
- Turn the lights on and off to show cause and effect.
- Identify shapes and items all around the house.
- Identify sounds like water running from the faucet, keys, rain, a car engine.
- Play games with letters using puzzles, magnets, books.
- Identify body parts and articles of clothing while dressing your baby.
- Identify the rooms of the house.
- Tell stories to your baby.
- Count socks, shirts, pants while you are doing the laundry. Identify colors and sizes.
- Count windows, doors, or various around the house.
- Allow your child to spend time outdoors to observe, manipulate, smell, hear new things.
- Walk outside when the sky is changing at night from light to dark, listen to the birds, let your baby feel falling rain.
